Lou says:
First off, I know what you all are asking! How is Tiger going to do? Well, we still don’t have much data for how good of a player he is now. There is indication his game is coming around. But even by emphasizing his recent play, the Model gives him essentially no chance of winning. Of course it all depends…
As for the others, this is a course which favors good drivers of the ball. Dustin and Spieth are right at the top. No surprise there. The Model typically favors the chalk. As a solid all around player, Kuchar should contend as well. Paul Casey has played well recently, so the Model picks him under all scenarios, like the others mentioned . Schniederjans has all positive strokes gains stats this year, so it is no wonder he shows up well in the Model. Lastly Austin Cook, who missed the cut last week, still is liked by the Model, probably due to his fine play in the fall. Not sure it will last.
After that, it starts to be a toss up. The Model really likes McIlroy and Scott both of which missed last week’s cut. McIlroy seems to have a better shot than Scott at coming around. Brandon Harkins, my long shot for last week, was in the top ten at Pebble until he bogied the last hole (the 9th at Pebble.) The Model is giving him another chance. Berger is having a strong year, so his numbers look good to the Model. He also has all positive strokes gains stats.
As for the tenth slot it is a toss up between Noren, Schauffele and Thomas. Thomas is the better all around player but has faltered recently. The Model seems to favor Schauffele over the others as he’s tenth.
