Tournament Prediction for WGC - Mexico - March 1 - 4 With Comments from Golf Statistician Lou Riccio

Lou Riccio who writes for Golf Digest says:
I feel pretty good about Tiger. The Model didn’t do that well this past weekend overall but having the winner and Tiger doing well after calling a “turnaround” for him was a plus.

As for this week, here goes:
A WGC event brings the best in the world together. Since the Model is based on historical data, it should be no wonder it picks the top players to do well. But it does pick up some interesting players.
In particular it ranks Ross Fisher right in there with the big boys. Fisher had a very good run a few years ago but hasn’t done too much recently. However he finished T-3 last year in Mexico and had a  T-5 and T-6 in two other WGC events last year. These championships apparently bring out the best in him and this may just be his week.
Fleetwood seems to be enjoying his stay on “this side of the pond” and along with the other “Europeans” (namely Garcia and Fisher) he is using this as a tune up for the Masters. He came close last week and his numbers other than his putting are excellent.
Rose won a WGC event last year and may be ready to get his historically superb iron play back in action. If he does the rest of his game is good enough to contend.
  1. D. Johnson
  2. Spieth
  3. Thomas
  4. Rahm
  5. Fisher, Ross
  6. Fowler
  7. Garcia
  8. Rose
  9. Mickelson
  10. Fleetwood
p..s I did not include Burmester in my list although the Model says he should do well. I have very little data for him so I have no confidence in that prediction.
